Tips for Keeping Your Home Ventilated

Ventilation is crucial in improving the health of you and the rest of your household. Proper ventilation will help to remove indoor air pollutants, unwanted smells, and any excess moisture. Keep reading for some helpful tips on how to keep your home well ventilated all year long!

Exhaust Fans

Always remember to run the exhaust fans in the kitchen when you’re cooking. Even though they are loud, they are incredibly helpful in redistributing the heat and moisture that comes from cooking. Additionally, it is important that you turn on your bathroom exhaust fan while you shower and after you shower, for at least 30 minutes. This will help your bathroom from becoming oversaturated with the heat and humidity from your shower.

Natural Air

If the weather allows, you should try to open your windows as much as possible. This will allow fresh air to move into your home, while warm stagnant air will move out. You could even try out an airflow technique called the “chimney effect”. This occurs when you open a window downstairs, which allows cool air into your home, and you open a window upstairs, to move warm air out.

Dehumidifiers

Purchasing a dehumidifier will also help to limit the amount of moisture in your home. Limiting the humidity in your home will help those in your house who suffer from allergies or have asthma. Additionally, a dehumidifier will help to reduce skin and respiratory irritations, decrease condensation and dust accumulation.

Open the Doors

Another option for improving the ventilation within your home is to open your interior doors. This will allow the air already in your home to circulate better so that you don’t have one room with fresh air and one with stuffy, musty air.
